Who handles my property taxes?
Bexar Central Appraisal District (BCAD) determines property values and administers exemptions. BCAD does not collect property tax payments or issue tax bills.
The Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office handles tax bills, payments, payment options, refunds, and amounts owed.
Who Should I Contact?
Contact BCAD for:
- Property values
- Exemptions
- Exemption application status
- Ownership information
- Mailing address changes
Contact the Tax Office for:
- Tax bills
- Amounts owed
- Payments
- Payment options or plans
- Due dates
- Refunds
- Payment history
My exemption is missing from my tax bill. What should I do?
Contact BCAD to verify the status of your exemption.
- If your exemption application is still pending, processing may take approximately 60–90 days.
- If your exemption was recently approved or corrected, the Tax Office will need to receive the updated information before your tax bill can be adjusted. Please allow time for the change to be processed and reflected with the taxing authorities. Updates are not immediate, and your tax bill or tax amount may not reflect the change right away.
- For questions about the new tax amount, payment, or refund, contact the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office.
Why did my taxes increase?
Your tax bill can change for several reasons, including changes to:
- Property value
- Exemptions
- Tax rates
- Taxing entities
BCAD can explain your property value and exemptions. The Tax Office can assist with questions about the actual tax amount owed.
I already paid my taxes. Will I receive a refund?
If an exemption or correction is processed after you have already paid your taxes, the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office determines whether a refund or credit is due.
BCAD does not calculate or issue property tax refunds.
Can I pay my property taxes at BCAD?
No. BCAD does not accept property tax payments.
Please contact the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office for payment information.
