What Evidence Should I Submit for a BPP Protest?

This article is to provide business owners examples of strong evidence they can provide when protesting their Business Personal Property (BPP) value.

Best Evidence to Submit

Common strong evidence includes:

• Fixed asset listing for the business location
• Year acquired and original cost
• Disposal or sale records for removed assets
• Lease agreements for leased equipment
• Photos showing asset condition
• Inventory documentation if inventory is part of the account

Evidence That Is Usually Not Helpful

Examples:

• General bank statements with no asset detail
• Profit and loss statements with no asset support
• Documents unrelated to the business location

Organizing Your Submission

Best practice:

• Submit one PDF packet or clearly named files
• Label documents by category:
