Texas law requires all business owners to file a Business Personal Property Rendition with the Appraisal District each year by April 15th. This filing reports the assets used in your business, such as furniture, equipment, and inventory.
If a rendition is not filed on time, a 10% penalty is automatically applied to the total amount of taxes imposed on the property for that year by taxing units participating in the appraisal district, as outlined in Texas Property Tax Code Section 22.28.
Common Reasons for Receiving a Penalty:
- No rendition was received by the April 15th deadline.
- The rendition was received late.
- The rendition was incomplete or unsigned.
How to Request a Penalty Waiver:
In certain cases, a penalty waiver may be considered if "good cause" can be demonstrated.
To request the waiver, you must submit your request within 30 days of the penalty notice date. You may:
- Complete a Penalty Waiver Request Electronic Form online in the Business Personal Property Forms section under the Forms tab at www.bcad.org
- Submit a printed Penalty Waiver Request form through our support portal at help.bcad.org
- Mail a letter with a detailed explanation of the reason(s) for the waiver request, along with any supporting documented evidence, to:
