If you are moving from one home to another, you must remove your property tax exemptions from your prior home by providing us with the date you moved from your old residence and submit a Residence Homestead Exemption application for your new one. Be sure to indicate your previous home’s address (see section 1 of the linked Homestead Application) and the date you moved into the new home on the application (section 3) and to provide a copy of your Texas Driver’s License or TX ID card showing the address of your new residence.
Homeowners receiving the over 65 exemptions qualify for a tax ceiling transfer which transfers the same percentage of tax paid to the ISD of their previous residence to a new qualified homestead. This may also apply to the county, city, or junior college taxes if the individual tax units have adopted a tax ceiling, and you move to another home within the same taxing unit. Be sure to check the box in section 1 of the Residence Homestead Exemption application stating “Yes” you are transferring a tax limitation.
