The Disabled Veteran Partial Exemption (10% to 100% Service-Connected Disability) reduces the taxable value of your home, potentially reducing your property taxes.
The amount of the exemption is determined by your service-connected disability rating:
- DV1 (10%–29%) → $5,000 off home's assessed value
- DV2 (30%–49%) → $7,500 off home's assessed value
- DV3 (50%–69%) → $10,000 off home's assessed value
- DV4 (70%–100%) → $12,000 off home's assessed value
- DV4 (Age 65 & 10%–100% rating) → $12,000 off home's assessed value
To qualify:
- You must have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10%.
- You must own your property on January 1st of the year you are applying for
- You must be a Texas resident.
- You cannot claim this exemption on more than one property
- A surviving spouse can continue the exemption if their spouse was claiming the exemption at the time of passing.
A current letter from the Department of Veteran Affairs dated within the last two years verifying your total combined service connected disability rating, as well as a Texas Driver's License or Texas Identification card, must be submitted with your form. A surviving spouse must also provide a copy of the marriage certificate and the veteran’s death certificate.
