General Homestead Exemption for Manufactured/Mobile Homes (Land Not Owned)

Can I receive a General Homestead Exemption if I own a mobile home but not the land?

Yes. You may qualify for a General Homestead Exemption on a mobile or manufactured home even if you do not own the land, as long as you own the home and it is your primary residence.

Eligibility Requirements:

You may qualify if all of the following apply:

• You own the mobile or manufactured home
• The home is your principal (primary) residence
• The home is listed in your name on the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) Statement of Ownership
• The home is located on leased land or land owned by another party

Note: If you do not own the land, the exemption applies to the mobile home only.

Who Does Not Qualify?

You do not qualify if:

• You rent the mobile home
• You live in the home but are not listed as the owner
• The home is not your primary residence
• The property is used as a rental or secondary residence

Required Documentation:

When applying, you may be asked to provide:

• TDHCA Statement of Ownership showing you as the owner
• Proof the home is located at the physical address
• A valid Texas driver’s license or ID matching the address
• Additional documents as requested by the appraisal district
