The Bexar Central Appraisal District maintains property records for all taxable properties in Bexar County. These records include details such as:
- Land size and dimensions
- Building square footage and layout
- Construction type and materials
- Condition and quality of improvements
- Year built (year of construction)
- Other physical and ownership characteristics
This information is essential to the mass appraisal process and helps ensure fair and equitable valuation.
Why property characteristics may contain errors
When the district was established in 1979 and certified its first appraisal roll in 1982, property records were inherited from incorporated cities, school districts, and other local sources. Because of this history, records prior to 1982 may contain discrepancies, especially for the year built of improvements.
Even after 1982, property data is collected through exterior inspections, building permits, aerial imagery, and information provided by property owners. While every effort is made to maintain accuracy, some characteristics can be misreported or outdated.
